Students machine every part on the ROV that is not commercially sourced.  Our machine shop includes a Taig benchtop CNC (Computer Numeric Control) mill that can precisely machine complex parts based on files generated from the Computer Aided Design (CAD), a Smithy 3:1 manual mill/lathe combination to manufacture cylindrical parts, a 14 inch metal cutting bandsaw that can easily saw thick aluminum stock, and a variety of conventional tools (drill press, grinder, various hand tools, tap and dies, etc.).    With these tools and proper training (with safety emphasized!), our students become proficient at manufacturing, making them better at designing parts with process limitations in mind.
